This guidance helps address the number of Representatives your Chapter will have on the Regional
Committee in the upcoming year so that your Chapter can hold its elections for these positions by
June 30 of the current year.
How is my Chapter represented on the Regional Committee?
Each Chapter President automatically serves as a member of the Regional Committee. In addition, Chapters receive one elected Representative for every 50 designated members in good standing (Practicing and Non-Practicing) who have the Chapter listed as their primary Chapter.
How is the number of elected Representatives determined?
The number of designated members in good standing who have selected your Chapter as their primary Chapter as of January 1 determines how many elected Representatives your Chapter will have on the Regional Committee for the following year.
Where can I find the number of Representatives my Chapter is entitled to elect?
The current report is available in the AI Chapter EDs SharePoint under Documents > Policies and Guidance > Region Representatives.
Chapter Officers: Please coordinate with your Chapter Executive Director to access available files, reports, and resources available in the AI Chapter EDs SharePoint.
What does the “Reps” number on the report mean?
The number listed in the "Reps" column reflects the number of Representatives your Chapter is entitled to have on the Regional Committee in addition to the Chapter President.
Your Chapter should elect enough individuals during its current election cycle to fill any vacancies and reach that allotted number of Representatives. Representative terms should be staggered.
Does the Chapter Vice President have to serve as a Regional Representative?
Yes. If a Chapter has one or more elected Regional Representatives, the Chapter Vice President must serve as one of those Representatives. If the Vice President is unable to serve, the Chapter officer next in line to the Chapter President must fill that Representative position.
Who is eligible to serve as a Regional Representative or on a Regional Committee subcommittee?
To be eligible, an individual must be either:
- A Designated Member in good standing, or
- A Candidate in good standing
Additionally:
For Practicing Designated Members:
- Must have a status of “continuing education program completed.”
For Candidates:
- Must have completed the Continuing Education requirements established by the Appraisal Institute.
For complete eligibility requirements, please refer to Regulation 8.
Are Regional Committee meetings mandatory for all Representatives?
Chapter President
- Required to attend all Regional Committee meetings unless granted an excused absence.
Chapter Vice President (when serving on the Regional Committee)
- Required to attend all Regional Committee meetings unless granted an excused absence.
Other Chapter Representatives
- Attendance is encouraged but optional.
Can a Chapter elect Alternate Representatives?
Yes. Chapters may elect one or more Alternate Chapter Representatives to serve when a Representative cannot attend a Regional Committee meeting.
How are Alternates used?
If the Chapter President or a Chapter Representative is unable to attend a Regional Committee meeting:
- The Chapter President should contact the first Alternate Representative according to the Chapter's established ranking order.
- If that Alternate is unavailable, the President should proceed sequentially through the list until an available Alternate is identified or the list is exhausted.
- The Chapter President must provide written notice to the Regional Chair regarding the use of an Alternate Representative.
